Review of "We Do What We Want"

by Vladimir Petković

American based quarter under the name Snew released its debut ''Snew You'' back in 2008, and now it hits the stores and scene again, with their new, second effort ''We do what we Want''.

Visually, this band looks like some younger and more manly version of Motley Crüe, as musically, they're pretty much influenced with Ac/Dc rock that's mixed with sleaze and glam elements that makes Snew sound very tough, interesting and hitting. Their rock may be not very original in core, but its highly dynamic, fueled and energetic, and guys surely managed to incorporate a lot of their own, especially in vocal arrangements that are awakening the era of 80's tough rock times. Arrangements are straight, and riffs stands out as very mighty and rocking, while vocals flows on relation Brian Johnson-Vince Neil, with much of it's own approach between. Solo parts relies on classical form, where some bluesy and boogie moments can be heard. Treatment of rhythm section is somewhat similar to the 90's Deep Purple (If you listened to ''Abandon'' you'll know what I'm talking about).

From first to the last song of this album it's clear that this band hitting for big time, and after all, music and production they have and delivering is with no doubts for places like stadiums and arenas. All in all, powerful sounding album that carries the spirit of true rock music.

Highlights of the album: ''Get Loud'', ''Who the Hell Are You'' and ''Knock it Out of Park''

Review of "Snew You"

by Eccentricity

You won’t find “snew” in the dictionary, but the term is fast becoming a word synonymous with “Take that, big record labels.” This California-based hard rock band is unapologetic in their disdain for mainstream media, and with the release of their first album, appropriately titled “Snew You,” and their recently launched Snew World Order, they may just be trying to take over the world.

Snew is led by vocalist Curtis Don Vito, a classic long haired, screaming singer whose style is a throwback to AC/DC and Jackyl. Don’t confuse his wails with screamo, for Snew’s sound is much more classic in nature, and takes listeners back to a time when music was all about being loud and well-amped. Guitarist Andy Lux and bassist Cat Tate are masters of the grinding southern rock style, and Lux displays some definite shred talent on “Heavy Water” and “Electric Is The Law.” Drummer Mark Ohrenberger is noteworthy in his own rite, with an impressive medley on “Kick Me Over.”

The overall feel of “Snew You” is upbeat, with a solid classic hard rock sound that gets blended with touches of blues and punk. The title track in particular, features a punk tempo and style, with heavily distorted vocals. Blues enthusiasts should check out the guitar riffs in “Vibrator,” a song that you might expect to be a crude tongue in cheek track, but actually ends up being smart and soulful, as well as arguably the best track on the album, “Head Trauma.” The combination of slow grinding southern rock and blues adds a nice touch to “Head Trauma,” but the scream vocals keep it from being melodramatic.

Fans of glam metal and music with a sense of excess should like “Stand Up High,” “She’s A Real Gunslinger,” and “Get It To Go,” which features short, choppy riffs and a guitar that spirals as it shreds its way to the ending. Surprisingly, the tune “Got Love,” for which the band released a controversial music video featuring models from the Camwithher website, is probably the least showy and dramatic track on the album. It features short, repetitive guitar riffs, and vocals reminiscent of AC/DC.

Though Snew eschews the idea of being radio friendly, their music is much more mainstream than today’s version of heavy metal. There is no angry death metal or even bombastic power metal to be found on “Snew You.” It’s simply a compilation of melodic hard rock music that’s edgy enough to tempt listeners to bang their heads.

Still, their style is bold enough that mainstream media probably won’t welcome them with open arms, even if Snew would lower themselves to accept a big label offer. The band’s commitment to doing things their own way makes one wonder if they, like Jackyl, may end up putting on their own impromptu show in a Kmart parking lot near you.

Highs: Bluesy southern rock interwoven throughout, but especially featured in “Head Trauma.”

Lows: No glaring moments, though at times the scream vocals are hard to understand.

Bottom line: An upbeat, in your face hard rock album.

My Global Mind

Review of "We Do What We Want"

by ZeeZee

I was truly surprised to discover that SNEW were not an Australian band, because their sound is a direct combination of some of the biggest Aussie acts in AC/DC, ROSE TATTOO, THE ANGELS, JET and AIRBOURNE. Sure there is also a striking similarity to ACCEPT, RHINO BUCKET and JACKYL, but let's face it, those three bands were all directly influenced by the Aussie rock sound anyway. There are a lot of bands in this mould going around the traps these days, and it seems that everyday brings a new one so it takes something really special to stand out in the crowd of Aussie inspired hard rock bands these days.

Luckily for us, SNEW are one of those bands that do manage to bring something special to the table, and have enough of a unique sound to not be classed as imitators. While the obvious AC/DC and ACCEPT influences are the predominant sound you'll hear, SNEW have also included some staunchy rock n roll straight out of the sunset strip heydays of the eighties, making for a unique combination that can be best described as pure balls-out rock that will surely please fans of any bands I have mentioned in this review.

The album opens up with WE DO WHAT WE WANT, which sets the scene for what's to come and sees vocalist Curtis Don Vito tearing up the song as only whisky-soaked rockers can do. FEEDBACK AND DISTORTION is probably the most accessible and mainstream sounding track on the album and should find some radio. KNOCK IT OUT OF THE PARK is a catchy and kick-ass tune that has found itself a spot in my ipod heavy rotation folder. SHINEBOX closes the album in fine fashion and will leave you wanting more, more, more.

I was pretty impressed by this album and am happy to recommend it to anybody that likes the simple side of pure, no-frills, balls-out hard rock. Buy it now!!

The band have a total garage like feel on the production too. 10 tunes on this and not a bad one in the bunch. If a label was smart they would snatch these guys up.

Review of "Snew You"

Grauer Himmel, schlechte Laune?

Luftholen und weiter geht’s mit Krachern wie Kick Me Over, Electric Is The Law und Heavy Water. Klasse!

On The Road 'Zine

Review of "Snew You"

by Anderson

Review of "Snew You"

by Ricarda Schwoebel

Anspieltipps: She's A Real Gunslinger, Got Love, Snew You

Review of "Snew You"

LONG LIVE ROCK & ROLL, IN THIS EVER CHANGING DAY & AGE!!! These guys have the balls to do just that. Against all odds, these guys persevere!

Their debut Cd "Snew You" was just released & already it's drawing a lot of attention from die hard rock fans.

As soon as you first listen, you hear a reminder of Rob Halford on a killer intro of vocals by Curtis himself. But Curtis does break into his own unique style of vocals thereafter. This Cd offers a variety of songs & music styles. We get a combination of hard hitting rockin' songs that they play best, w/a mixture of a little blues & a ballad to even it all out.

My favorite picks from the Cd would be "She's A Real Gunslinger". This song has the typical AC/DC feel to it, as they say they draw some of their influences from. My other fave would be "Head Trauma". I'm a sucker for the blues/stripper style songs.

Overall, I'd say this is a very good CD. It wouldn't disappoint. Well worth a listen & I'm happy to own it in my collection & thank you gentlemen for giving me this opportunity to listen & conduct this review for you.

Now, if only in the future they can produce another great CD! Love to hear it!

Review of "Snew You"

by William Prevost

In an era coined with the phrase "hope", there has emerged a band that defies the status quo and has vowed to revive the Classic Rock that made music what it should be. If you like AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, The Ramones, SNEW IS YOUR SALVATION!

This gritty, hard rockin' band will rescue you from the computer generated trash that the big record companies have imposed on our society. No more Snoopy Dog, Madonna, or Brittany. Go back to the times when the only performers on stage were the artists themselves and their grand displays of their talent. You don't need "bump 'n' grind" to sell real music. This has it's own sex appeal.

Tunes like "Heavy Water", "Vibrator", and "Stand Up High" are just a few on this album that will take you back to the days when rock really was rock! Great vocals, hard rockin' guitar, chest pounding drums and reverberating base take you to the past and show you the future of what rock is.

They say everything is cyclical. Well, its time to rid the world of  the refuse that the record companies are putting out and get back to TRUE rock and roll. So... SNEW YOU!!!
