Review of "We Do What We Want"

By Guillermo

I reviewed Snew's debute release titled "Snew You" a couple of years back, and I loved it, it was raunchy, and sleazy, and with the new release titled "We Do What We Want" they have taken the raunch to a new level. if you haven't heard of Snew, think of Dangerous Toys, and Jackyl rolled into one. Singer Curtis Don Vito has got a hell of a scream, which fits so well with Snew's sound. songs like "Feedback And Distortion" and "Shinebox" are top notch. Andy Lux's Guitar work is amazing on this release. killer guitar riffs, from start to end.

Standout songs for me are "Shinebox" "Feedback And Distortion" and "Pick Up The Ball" you should really give this band a listen. they deserve to be heard by the masses.

Track List:
01. We Do What We Want
02. Feedback And Distortion
03. Private Stash
04. Risking My Life
05. Get Loud
06. Knock It Out Of The Park
07. Power Pack
08. Pick Up The Ball
09. Who The Hell Are You
10. Shinebox

Review of "We Do What We Want"

By Domonic R

Snew : We Do What We Want (Track by Track Review)

Well the guys in the band Snew put out a new release called "We Do What We Want" and I have to say that this CD has really over-met all my expectations. There is no slowing down on the release from beginning to end.

Track by track review:

#1 "We Do What We Want" is a straight up rockin tune. At first listen you would think you were listening to a recharged Krokus vocalist in AC/DC but it is only Curtis Don Vito ripping the vocals. A very strong song to open up with. Very catchy hook and the song is constant flowing. When I listen to this song, I keep thinking, damn this guitarist is really talented. I am sure you will feel the same way.

#2 "Feedback and Distortion" now this song I have great appreciation for because it hasgrown on me. Not only does it have a cool running guitar/bass line in it but their video is really cool. Yes I have a lil cameo in it a few times, thanks guys!! This song has a great chance of getting mainstream and I hope it does. It has all those happy go lucky parts in it, the screaming, the killer breakdown, the solo and of course the stripper groove throughout the song. If you couldn't picture a stripper and a pole getting acquainted to this song than you have no imagination!

#3 "Private Stash", this has such a cool giddyup and go rhythm to start the song that you can't help but to follow along. The guitar riff kinda threw me off but I am glad it did, it was really unexpected, music is missing that these days. The vocals hold this song up. Hey they break out a harmonica and the guitar solo has a feel of an older Aerosmith (Train Kept a Rollin). Give this song a few listens.

#4 "Risking My Life", Pretty cool riff to open this song, has that "We're an American Band" kinda feel to it. Nice hook to the chorus, you'll be singing along with it in no time.

#5 "Get Loud", this is another great straight up hard rock song. Outstanding powerful vocals and flowing ripping solo. This song has everything to it, I love the bass and the steady and accurate drumming in this one. I needed to drink water after listening to this one and the vocal expertise top notch!

#6 "Knock It Out Of The Park", If you like hard rock you will love this song. I was hearing parts of the song that reminded me of a cross between AC/DC and Accept. This song is a definite keeper in my collection.

#7 "Power Pack", this one is a constant moving song and is pretty cool. Alot of changes in it and very creative. Nice riffs throughout. Nice solo. I hate to compare songs to other artists but this one had a nice old KISS vibe to it.

#8 "Pick Up the Ball", If this release had a ballad on it than I pick this one. Anyone see my lighter? This one still isn't a mellow song by any mean it just has alot of guts to it and the delivery is phenomenal. I will definitely listen to this one much more!

#9 "Who The Hell Are You", some mean ass bluesy opening and the vocals scratchy and gritty makes this song turn out. The chorus is very hooky and you'll be humming this one for days to come!

#10 "Shinebox", this is what I think of Shinebox, I think this is the best song on the CD. I love the lyrics to this one and the drums, bass and guitar keep this song in track. I love the hook, it may be short but it will be stuck in your head. A great song to conclude the CD to. I can picture this being a show closer. Very powerful and hard hitting from beginning to end. The solo is a nice masterpiece of shredding.

Overview: well now that I took you through track by track and pieces of the songs that stuck out to me I know that if you purchase this CD you will be absolutely satisfied with what you get. It is a constant flow from beginning to end and doesn't have any real soft spots in it to bring it down. These guys are great musicians and great friends of the MT show and I highly recommend you getting your hands on this one today and make it part of your collection for years to come! So pick up your copy of Snew : "We Do What We Want" today!

Metal Core Fanzine

Review of "Snew You"

by Chris Forbes

SNEW/Snew You (Self Released) 10 tunes of ass kicking rock n roll that
isn't far off from AC/DC or Krokus. The singer has a little Marc from Krokus in him and the tunes are just simple, but effective rock n roll tunes that will
have your toes tapping and your head bobbing to the music.

The band have a total garage like feel on the production too. 10 tunes on this and not a bad one in the bunch. If a label was smart they would snatch these guys up.

Review of "We Do What We Want"

by Kimmi

Snew is exactly the kind of fun, head-banging metal that I like – four Hollywood guys who make music that is a constant party. Listening to their tongue-in-cheek songs and watching their videos gives an immediate expectation of their personalities – and that expectation is RIGHT ON. I interviewed Curtis Don Vito, the lead singer, and Cat Tate, the bassist, for over two hours and I know nothing more about them than I did before the interview other than that they are hilarious, always ready with a comeback line or variation of a sentence and perfectly in sync with each other. I laughed – a lot. At times I wondered just who was interviewing who but I was having so much fun I didn’t care.

Formed in 2005, I have no idea how they met – and if Fate had a hand in it or the Devil, as impish as these guys are. Their album “Snew You” is a blast: carefree and with lyrics that aren’t the typical angry words or deep-throated screams most people expect from metal. In fact, let metal-haters listen to Snew – and convert them to metal lovers – and Snewology.

Make no mistake – while I can’t tell you a thing about their lives, I can tell you that they have a definite future in the world of music, that Snew is a combination of Jackyl’s wackiness with David Lee Roth’s fun-loving attitude and that their music will hook you.

So quick are they that they have endless puns on their name: in a recent contest they awarded a guitar to the winner of the “Snewed Tomatoes” contest; asking listeners to come up with variations of the band name: the winner received a Snew guitar for his perfect photo-shopped version of the popular drink “Mountain Snew”. Along with “Happy Snew Year”, their fan club is the “Snew World Order”… you get the drift. I had spent days trying to come up with every Snew-isms I could think of, but not one they hadn’t already thought of or heard.

For as hard as I laughed throughout the interview with HALF of the band, I can’t even imagine all four of them together in the same room – but I can’t wait to experience it on stage. These are the boys who sit in the back of the classroom throwing spitballs at the teacher or pulling the fire alarm or teasing the cute girls – and growing up to be rock stars.

They have promised a “throughout the country” tour in the summer of ’09 and I for one will not be missing it.

Check them out at WWW.SNEWYOU.COM -- and tell them Kimmi sent ya!

Metal Exiles

Review of "We Do What We Want"

by Jeffrey Easton

As dirty as it can come, Snew Invades your speakers with their filthy brand of rock music that is not made for the weak.   Coming to you straight from the gutters of Hollywood is a band that was formed to piss off your parents, your neighbors and your girlfriend after you get rid of all your other CDs in sake of this one.

Snew has just unleashed their second LP and it is a sick affair.  We Do What We Want has never sounded so positive and so correct.  Snew do not go with the times, they go with what they want and they produce well…  Glam in the vein of Rhino Bucket, Wildside and KIX if you will, they will be huge.  Ten tracks dominate We Do What We Want and they are nasty, they stick to your ears and do not let go.   From Private Stash, the title track to Get Loud and Pick Up The Ball, the guitars do not stop backing you up against the wall and do not give in.

If you are tired of what the labels are feeding you and you just need a rock fix then this is a must for you, period!

BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Review of "We Do What We Want"

By Lucas H. Gordon

Review of "We Do What We Want"

By Glenn Milligan

Brand new band that are purely in the style of Airbourne, AC/DC, Broken Teeth, Rhinobucket & Cherry St – classic riffing and sqwaky rocking vocals.

They hail from Hollywood and the album is a pure no brainer of rock 'n' rolling brilliance with plenty of highlights throughout that include the titled track 'We Do What We Want'; 'Private Stash'; 'Power Pack' & 'Shinebox'.

Wanna good time – this is a perfect way to start.

Metal Rules

Review of "Snew You"

by Rick

Kick in the ass hard rock is what Snew delivers on their debut disc SNEW YOU. I am sure you are thinking the same thing as I was… what kind of a name for a band is Snew. I quickly got past the name when I found out that Curtis Don Vito was the mastermind behind this act, as Vito was the voice of Steamroller, which was one of the first bands I ever reviewed for the pages of the Metal-Rules.com. That act was pedal to the medal hard rock/trad metal and while Snew is more straight up hard rock from the Jackyl/AC/DC/American Dog school. Nothing too original to be found here but if you are looking for some serious ass kicking party music you have certainly come to the right place!

The Snew crew waste no time kicking it into high gear as the opening track “Stand Up High” is a rip roarer of the highest order and lets the listener know that Snew is here and in your face. “She’s a Real Gunslinger” is one of the highlights of the disc with Curtis Don Vito snarling his way through a track that would make Bon and Angus proud! Now saying that I want to make it clear that Snew is not an AC/DC clone band. They, like many other bands, take parts of that sound and mix it into a huge boiling pot of influences to create some of the best rock music put out there today. Snew also doesn't forget the dirty edge that the big labels seem to easily shine from their bands. “Electric is the Law” and “Got Love” are amongst the standout tracks that make SNEW YOU such an irresistible listen.

Snew doesn’t deliver anything new on SNEW YOU. What they do deliver is some seriously energetic kick ass hard rockin metal. The vocals of Curtis Don Vito fit the music perfectly and the band of guitarist Andy Lux, bassist Cat Tate and drummer Mark Ohrenberger sound as if they have played together for 20 years. If bands like AC/DC, Jackyl, American Dog and Junkyard are what turns your crank then Snew should be mandatory listening.

Review of "We Do What We Want"

by Rick

Snew the fuck are you? That's the question soon to be on the tongues of rock and metal fans the world over. With the popularity of new act Airbourne and the continued and never waning popularity of heavyweights AC/DC, Snew just might have released this disc at the right time. Filled with all of the swagger and attitude I expect from Curtis Don Vito, WE DO WHAT WE WANT takes anything the band has done previously to a new level. From the get go this disc is destined to end in the obliteration of more than one vertebrae.

The opening of this disc is like a kick to the head with the title track screaming at the listener with 2 parts AC/DC and one part Johnny Walker. Vocalist Curtis Don Vito unapologetically snarls "We Do What We Want" while the rest of the band sits in the groovy mid tempo pocket that has been the bread and butter of AC/DC forever. Not content to sit in the pocket, Snew kick it into high gear with "Feedback and Distortion". This is a great balls out tune which is made even more interesting by the video which Snew has shot for it. It is made entirely of people playing air guitar to the track. It just shows the power of the track and the fun the fans have with it. "Risking My Life" changes pace as the band tone it down a tad and feature an almost 60s Stones influenced song that had me kind of scratching my head at first. It didn't take long for my foot to start tapping and to realize how infectious this track really is. I kept expecting the piano to kick in and rock it out. "Pick Up the Ball" throws the AC/DC sound out the window for more of a bluesy southern rock inspired sound and "Private Stash" throws in some ripping harmonica for good measure.

WE DO WHAT WE WANT definitely captures the sound Snew established on their debut disc SNEW YOU but more importantly, it takes the band in new directions and moves it away from being simply another AC/DC "clone" band. There is no denying the influence of the Australians on Snew but the band has managed to move away from the overt AC/DCisms and add more of a 70s southern rock vibe as well as even a hint of the 60s budding Rock n Roll rebellion. The big surprise is how they have focused all of this into a cohesive disc that at first listen is good head banging hard rock but on subsequent listens exposes a multilayered sound that continues to grow on the listener. If Snew don't watch it they could be the next big thing.
